If you want to make healthy baby food at home, then you need to choose a special blender. The same blender that you use for making smoothies, or frozen daiquiris is not the best blender for baby food. That’s not a big issue because the blenders that are designed specifically for making baby food are not too big, so you can have them in addition to your regular blenders. They don’t take up too much room on your countertop.
So if you’re looking to make healthy organic baby food, then you need a good baby food blender. While I really love the Vitamix and the bullet blenders, they just don’t cut it when it comes to making baby food. Those blenders don’t have the special cooking features (steaming, thawing and defrosting) that the best baby food blenders come with.
Now, let’s take a look at what exactly it is you want in a baby food blender.
Steaming Ability
When you are making baby food, you need to have the ability to steam it. Back in the old days (in the 70s when the idea of making organic baby food at home became popular) people had to steam or cook the food separately on their stove, and then transfer it to a blender. Luckily that’s not an issue anymore. The new line of blenders that are designed for parents who are looking to make baby food at home have this feature. You can now steam or defrost without having to jump between the stove and a separate blender.
BPA and Phthalate Free
It’s always important to have a blender that is not made with BPA or other dangerous chemicals. However, it’s especially important when you are dealing with heating food. The high temperature that is necessary when steaming food means you want a blender that doesn’t have any dangerous chemicals such as BPA, Phthalate or lead. These chemicals can leach into the food, especially when you combine high temperatures. Also, any sort of acidic food (tomatoes, citrus, etc…) is something that would cause chemicals to leach out, so the best baby blenders won’t be made with these nasty chemicals.
Good Puree Function
The most important function, and the one you absolutely need, is the ability to puree. You want the food to be completely pureed, like you would get from commercially prepared baby food. You don’t want to have to spend too long processing the food, or pressing it through a sieve.
BEABA Babycook
This is one of the most popular baby food blender. BPA free, steaming capability, cute color, and doesn’t take up much room. Easy to puree food and easy to clean. If you like this model, make sure to get some of the matching storage containers so that you have somewhere to store the baby food. You don’t want to go through the trouble of getting a BPA free baby food blender and then just store the food in BPA containers! So get some containers that don’t have these harmful chemicals.
