It’s not all about the whey protein shakes. Sometimes you are going to want a smoothie. You can’t live on protein alone. Fiber is an important part of your diet. Especially if you’re drinking protein shakes during the day and not eating tons of extra food. Granted, you are probably getting some fiber from your oatmeal (if you eat oatmeal) but you are not eating big salads, then you should definitely add in a smoothie.

You can make a fruit smoothie: berries (blueberries, raspberries, and blackberries) and pineapple, plus bananas. Or you could make a green smoothie with spinach, kale, apples, and bananas. Aside from the fiber that you get from these smoothies, you are also getting tons of micronutrients that help your body recover from the stress of lighting heavy weights. Of course, protein is the main component in building big muscles, but you should not overlook good nutrition, which includes vitamins and antioxidants. Tearing down and rebuilding your muscles creates oxidative stress on your entire body, so the inclusion of fresh fruits and vegetables are really important.

For most uses, the vitamix is the best blender. It’s the strongest design and will handle just about anything. So if you are looking to add protein in the form of nuts, seeds, or grains into your smoothies, then a vitamix is ideal. The only consideration is that it is a bit expensive, plus it’s a normal size blender….so if you need a smaller, more compact blender, then you should consider a bullet style.

One of the benefits to the smaller bullet style blenders is that they take up so much les room than bigger blenders. Also, if you’re using this every single day they will make your life super easy. The clean up is super easy so you won’t end up spending too much time.

The other thing I like about the bullet blenders is that you can make a single serving. You don’t have to maker a whole lot and then store some for later. I don’t recommend storing your juices or sometimes…drink it as soon as possible. The fresher the better.

I would suggest getting a bullet blender that comes with extras such as storage cups. This way you can take your shaker bottle with you for your protein and not have to rinse it out to put the smoothie in. You don’t need to put a smoothie in a shaker bottle anyways since you are not mixing up anything.

One thing that makes smoothies and juicing better for bodybuilders is that vitamin C is good, but taking tons of vitmain c supplementas is not the best way to get it. Some studies have shown that taking excess vitamin C can actually harm gains.

For most bodybuilders, a bullet blender will work best. Be careful when choosing a bullet style blender because some of the cheaper models are not strong enough to blend up things like pineapple, kale, or seeds. So stay clear of the lower priced models. The best bullet blender is not that expensive, so spend the extra cash for it. I like this model below because not only is it super strong, it comes with a ton of extras such as drinking containers with lids.

If you’re looking for a more powerful blender because you want to add things such as oats, chia seeds, nuts, or kale, then you should get a Vitamix. These are the most powerful blenders and are designed to really make the best smoothies possible.

While the smaller blenders are alright for stuff such as frozen fruit and protein powders, if you’re doing lots of heavy blending, you want a Vitamix. They are also bigger, so you can make bigger batches. If you get into cooking you can make all sorts of foods, including high protein soups. They are a bit more pricey than other blenders, but if you do plan on making a good protein shake everyday to compliment your weightlifting routine, you would do well with a Vitamix.
