There are lots of people who have become interested in blending lemons. Most of the time, lemons are juiced. But there has been a lot of interest lately in blending whole lemons instead of simply juicing them.
I honestly am not someone who blenders lemons that often. I am more of a fan of juicing lemons. However, I’ve had enough people ask me about how to blend lemons and if they can blend the whole lemon. So, what I wanted to do with this article was go over some of the important questions you might have.
We will cover why you would want to blend a whole lemon as opposed to juice it. How you can blend a lemon so that it blends up smooth. What types of blenders are necessary to blend whole lemons. And finally, what are the real benefits to blending whole lemons as opposed to some of the more suspect health benefits.
Can You Blend Whole Lemon In A Blender
Ok, let’s get the main question out of the way. Yes, you can certainly take an entire lemon and blend it up. I would recommend that you slice the lemon into quarters first. Unless you’re using a Blendtec or a Vitamix, you are going to put a lot of stress on your blender by putting in a large whole lemon.
Even if you are using a strong blender, I would suggest that you slice up the lemon. It takes just a few seconds to slice the lemon into smaller pieces, and it speeds up the blending process.
Your blender, depending on what make and model you have, will blend up the whole lemon to a different degree. Some of the higher end blenders that have a stronger motor will blend up the lemon much more efficiently. But any good blender will be able to make a blended lemon drink.
Can You Blend Lemon Seeds?
So, if you are planning on blending a whole lemon, then you are going to want to find out if you can blend lemon seeds. Because, obviously if you are blending an entire lemon you’ve got to know if the seeds will get blended.
Yes, you can blend lemon seeds. It’s similar to when you are blending anything else that is hard such as chia seeds or nuts like almonds.
Again, the same principal applies. The better the blender, the easier it will be to blend up the lemon seeds. If you’re using a cheap blender that you picked up online for 30 bucks, then you probally are not going to see good results.
But if you’re using a stronger blender, one that’s sufficently strong enough to blend up leafy greens and other
Will A Bullet Blender Blend A Whole Lemon
It depends on what type of bullet blender you use. There are a lot of blenders that are sold under the name, “Bullet Blender”. It’s a bit misleading to say that all bullet blenders can blend a whole lemon, because, frankly, many of them can’t. If you are using one of the higher price point ones, such as Nutri Bullet, then you can get away with using a bullet blender.
But, again, I would stress that you should also be slicing your lemon into quarters before putting it into your blender. That’s going to reduce the stress that is placed upon the blender blades and it will make it much easier for the blender to handle the lemon.
What Do You Add To A Lemon When Blender It?
You can’t blend a whole lemon by itself. You should really add some sort of liquid to the blender. I reccomend using filtered water, but you could also use coconut water or even almond milk.
The important aspect of this is to not try and blend up the lemon dry. Remember, you are not using a food processor, you’re using a blender. Also, consider what a blended lemon without any additional liquid would turn out like? It would not be drinkable. It would simply be a slushy porridge of lemon.
So, make sure to add at least a cup of water or your preferable liquid when blending.
Cold or Warm Water When Blending A Whole Lemon?
Many blenders can’t handle blending hot water. The heat will damage the blenders seals and cause leaks. So, I’d advise against using hot water unless you have a vitamix or blendtec.
If you want to use warm water, something that’s akin to room temperature, than go right ahead.
That said, if you really want to use hot water because you think it tastes better than cold water, then go ahead. Provided you have a blender capable of blending hot water.
If you’re deciding on what is the best blender make sure to review my write ups.
Some people perfer to drink warm or room temperature water as oppoosed to cold water.
I will add that if you are blending the lemon with cold water, it will still release the essential oil that is in the lemon. It’s not the same case as when you add a slice of lemon to hot water.
Is Blending A Whole Lemon Good For You?
There is a really populr recipe circulating around online that purports to have cancer fighting health benefits. I would urge that anyone who reads these sorts of articles be very cautious. The information is highly suspect and most official news outlets and real doctors will tell you that simply drinking hot water and lemon won’t do anything to “kill cancer cells”. It’s hogwash.
However, there are real studies that suggest that if you drink lemon juice (or lemon water that have the healthy polyphenols from lemons in them) then you will get major health benefits. So, it’s definitely something that is good for you. There are even studies that show that lemon oil will help to prevent obesity.
Overall, drinking lemon juice, or blending a whole lemon and drinking that in a sort of lemon smoothie, is something that is going to be a net positive and healthy for you.
