Best Immersion Blender

I decided to update this old posting because I realzied that not that many people own an immersion blender. And that means that they are missing out on quite a lot.

Here’s a fast pick for a great all around immersion blender.

The Advantages to an Immersion Blender

Of the three main types of juicers, the immersion blender is probally the most versitoile. With it, you can do everyting from making pureed soups , whiping cream, to making cold process homemade soap.

The main advantage to using an immersion blender is that is can be put into things. So, if you want to blend up a pot of soup, you simply stick the immersion blender right into the soup pot. Instead of transfering the hot soup directly to a blender (which is a problem unless you have a blender that can handle hot liquid) you can simply put the blender directly into the soup container…hence the term immersion.

An immersion blender is a very versatile tool to have at your disposable. It makes cooking much easier. You can puree soups in the pot without having to jostle the soup back and forth between a pot and the jar like in a regular blender. This makes an immersion blender much better and safer when working with hot soups, and stews.

Besides using an immersion blender for pureeing a soup or a stew, you can even use it to make mashed potatoes. When you’re working off the heat, you can use it to make salsas and tomatillo salsas (salsa verde). You can also use an attachment to and use it to whip cream, and make hollandaise sauce and mix up nut butters with coconut and or chocolate.

How To Pick a good Stick Blender

When it comes to choosing the best immersion blender, you’re going to want a strong motor and preferably a steel design. There are BPA free designs, but I think that the stainless steel immersion blenders are the best.

The second thing you want is a strong motor. If you get an immersion blender with a strong motor, then you won’t have to worry about the motor burning out during use. Some of the cheaper models have weak motors and are not suitable for extended use. So make sure you get a brand such as Cusinart that makes their immersion blenders with strong motors.

Lastly, you have to decide if you want a corded or cordless immersion blender. Personally, I think that the best immersion blenders are those that run off of a cord and get plugged into the wall. These have strong motors. If you really don’t want a corded immersion blender, then you can find some good ones that run off of batteries, but I do suggest that unless you have a real problem with a lack of power outlets in your home you take the corded option.

Is a Jar/Pitcher Blender Worth It Too?

In addition to getting an immersion blender you should also get a pitcher for making shakes, whipped creams, mousses and other non-heated items. Some of the immersion blenders come with these, but I’ve found the best thing to do is just get a separate stainless steel cup, a large one that will handle the mixing job. You can normally get them packaged together.

My Picks for the Best Immersion Blenders

Here’s a few of the best immersion blenders to choose from. I like to stick to well known brands because they have a few things going for them: power, durablilty, speed, and a lot of great reviews.

Cuisinart CSB-75MR Smart Stick 2-Speed 200-watt Immersion Hand Blender, Metallic Red

This is my favorite immersion blender. It’s got two speeds, which is all you need. You don’t want too many functions on your stick blender. Basically a fast and a slow speed is all you want. Plus it’s dishwasher safe. It’s a nice, pretty looking streamlined immersion blender. The stick is long enough to reach down into deep pots and bowls and get all of the food that you want to blend.

Cuisinart ordless Rechargeable Hand Blender

If you’re looking for a battery operated immersion blender, then this Cuisinart model is for you. It’s got a charging base and it will operate for about 20 minutes once it’s charged. That’s plenty of time since you don’t want to run an immersion blend for too long anyway. The best models will get the job done quickly. Cheap immersion blenders that take a long time are not desirable.

The one thing you should note is that even the best cordless immersion blender won’t be as powerful as a corded model. That doesn’t mean you can’t use it, some people complain about them, but they are either comparing them to powerful corded versions or they don’t know how to properly use them. Like I said, I would recommend using a corded immersion blender, but if you really must get a battery operated immersion blender, then the Cuisinart is a really nice choice.

This is my pick for cordless stick blender. You can read more reviews here.
