How To Tell If Your Blender is Broken?

Is it time to replace your old blender with a new one? Should you toss it out or try and fix it?

Well, if you read enough about blenders online you’ll soon see that the common consensus is that you should always replace them. It’s not worth it trying to repair a blender—with some rare exceptions.

It’s not that blenders are so cheap that they are disposable, it’s simply that there’s not a large support network for repairing them.

It’s sort of like modern TVs. Sure, you can find a television repair person, but it is not as common as it once was. There’s no Geek Squad for blenders, tvs, or most other appliances.

But that being said, most people are better off simply replacing a blender.

When Shouldn’t You Replace a Blender?

First, let’s discuss when you shouldn’t replace a blender. As much as I think blenders are one of the best things to have in your kitchen, they aren’t for all people.

Here’s when you shouldn’t replace a blender:

• You never used the blender. If you’re someone who never used the blender, and you don’t want to ever use one, don’t buy one. Not everyone is into making smoothies and health shakes.
• The blender is brand new. If that’s the case, it might be under warranty.
• The blender jar is cracked. In that case, you only need to get a blending jar replacement. You can find them here on Amazon.

 

Repair or Replace: What’s The Best Option

In most instances you should replace a broken blender. There is no market for repairing a blender. It’s just not something that is done.

If you have a blender, and you’ve used it for a year or more and it’s broken, then I would get a replacement blender—and probably not the same brand. A blender should last more than a year.

I would advise that you get a blender from a well known brand. Ninja blenders, BlendTec, VitaMix, all of these blenders are well made and are not known to break after a few months. Most will last years.

The only time that you should try and repair a blender is when the blending jar is broken. In that case, you can get a replacement.

But if the blending base or cord is broken, then it’s not a repairable. In this situation it would be better to just replace the blender as a whole unit.

Remember, blenders are not expensive unless you are buying a VitaMix or BlendTec. If you’re buying one of them, they will have an excellent warranty and it’s unlikely that they will break soon. If so, you can always contact the manufacturer because it’s such an unusual issue.

So, what are the signs of that a blender will need to be replaced? Here’s a few.

 

The Blender Motor Is Making Too Much Noise

Blenders make noise, that’s just a fact. While there are quiet blenders that you can buy, it’s almost impossible to find a blender that is silent. It’s just something you have to deal with when you’re buying a blender.

However, a blender should not make so much noise that it’s causing concern. And a better way to review the problem is to tell if the blender is making more noise than when you first got it.

If the blender is making the same amount of noise, then it’s not an issue. However, if the blender is making more noise than when you first got it and first started to use it that is a sign that the motor is failing.

A blender that makes a lot of noise, more than it originally did, is a sign that the motor is failing. And that’s not something that you can repair. In this case, you should just get a replacement blender.

 

Its Too Slow, Smokes, or Stops In The Middle

If the blender isn’t working as it should, then the motor is likely broken and you should just get a new blender.

Blenders where the motor is broken will oftentimes be too slow, stop in the middle of blending, or in some bad cases they might smoke.

If the blender is smoking, or smells like smoke, then it’s not safe to use. That is a sure sign that the blender motor is broken and not functioning.

 

The Blender Is Leaking or The Cord is Frayed or Broken

If your blender is leaking, then you’re going to have to replace the blending jar at a minimum.

However, if the cord is frayed, it’s simply easier to replace the entire blender. You should never spend time trying to repair a blender cord because it’s dangerous and not something that most people should try and fix.

What I would suggest is that you just get a better blender when you are buying a replacement. One of the main reasons why people end up with blenders where the cord is frayed is that they get cheap blenders.

Cheap blenders aren’t really cheap when you consider the long term cost. If you buy a cheap blender at the supermarket or the big box store, but then have to replace it soon after buying it, then you’re actually spending more money on a cheap blender.

It’s just a smarter decision to get a blender that will hold up over time. Consider the following scenario:

You buy a cheap blender from the supermarket or a big box store and spend maybe 50 bucks. It lasts you less than a year and you have to replace it.

Or, you get a well made blender such as a VitaMix or NutriBullet. These blenders have solid reputations and are not going to fall apart after a few months of use, it’s just not common and not an issue to be concerned about.

So, here’s my final thoughts:

If your blender is making a lot of noise

If your blender is smoking

If your blender stops intermittently

Then it’s time to get a new blender. The only time I’d suggest you not get one is if you’re sure that you’re going to give up making smoothies and pursuing a health lifestyle and are instead going to simply give up.

But for all other people, it’s a good idea to just go ahead and buy a blender. Here are a few options to check out.
