In the turbulent return to work landscape, companies and their CEOs are always trying new tricks to get people to come back to work.
One trend that’s become popular is the addition of a smoothie bar within the office. Beyond the obvious appeal of a cheap lunch, employers are discovering many reasons to invest in this office add on.
I decided to write this article for both employers and employees who might end up working for a company that provides a smoothie bar as a fringe benefit.
Promoting Health and Wellness
A smoothie bar aligns perfectly with the growing emphasis on employee well-being. In an era where sedentary lifestyles and unhealthy eating habits are on the rise, employers are recognizing the importance of fostering a healthy workplace environment. If low calorie smoothies are offered as a daily workplace option, then employees will stay well, healthy, and not get sick and require as many sick days. This is a “win win” for employers.
Increased Productivity and Focus
The saying “you are what you eat” holds true in the workplace as well. Proper nutrition plays a super important role in cognitive function and concentration; things that are essential to workplace productivity.
By providing employees with access to nutrient-packed smoothies, employers can contribute to improved mental clarity and focus. The energy boost from a well-balanced smoothie can enhance productivity, helping employees stay engaged and perform at their best throughout the workday.
Fostering a Positive Workplace Culture
Building a smoothie bar isn’t just about improving your employees physical health; it also contributes to building a positive workplace culture.
The communal aspect of gathering around the smoothie bar area fosters social interactions among colleagues in the same way a water cooler would. You could even say it’s a “smoothie center” or something similar. It’s a positive way to create a lounging center which is most definitely different than a WeWork booze center (which ended up ending quite soon anyway).
Employees who gather around the smoothie center, or smoothie bar, can share workout tips, or talk about workplace events—things that are positive and help maintain a positive outlook.
Attracting and Retaining Talent
The current job market is very competitive, especially with the problem of return to work and the reluctance of the average employee. One problem with attracting and retaining good employees is the constant needs to meet the demands of job seekers.
Offering unique perks like a smoothie bar sets a company apart from the rest. Job seekers nowadays are increasingly seeking out workplace benefits that go beyond traditional offerings. A smoothie bar not only shows a commitment to employee well-being but it also shows that the company is “trendy” and hip to a healthy lifestyle.
Supporting Work-Life Balance
One of the main reasons people don’t want to return to work (or return to “In Office” work) are the lack of “self care” options. People who got used to working at home also got used to working In order to entice them, employers are offering more incentives.
The demands of modern work often result in employees feeling overwhelmed and stressed. A smoothie bar can serve as a small yet impactful step towards supporting work-life balance. By providing a convenient and healthy snack option within the workplace, employers show an understanding of the challenges their employees face in balancing professional and personal responsibilities.
Enhancing Employee Engagement
One of the most important aspects of a company is how engaged the employees are. Employee engagement might be considered most critical factor in the success of an organization.
While it sounds cliché, a smoothie bar can contribute to lead to higher levels of worker engagement in the workplace. Why? Because people will gather around the smoothie bar and talk about work, or at least talk about health related topics.
It’s a great and simple way to improve employee productivity and enhance their workplace enviroment.
