There are millions of articles online about how to lose weight and get yourself ready for the beach and into bikini body shape. Most of them, if not all of them, are aimed at people who are looking to crash diet and lose a ton of weight.

That’s not realistic. When you see bikini bodies on Instagram, realize that those bodies are the result of years of hard work.

But don’t let that disappoint you. Depending on what shape you’re in, you could get into bikini shape in less than a month.

Of course, if you’re really overweight, then it’s going to take longer. But putting it off for yet more time won’t get you to your goal.

If you ever want to have a bikini body, then the time is now to get started.

 

Before we get into the topic of smoothies and if they are going to help you lose weight and get a bikini body, let me tell you a tip that I think is great for motivation.

Take a weekly photo. Don’t look at the scale every day.

Measure your weight at the beginning of every week.

Use the photos as motivation because you’ll see improvements over time when looking at photos on your phone or on your laptop.

Alright, let’s jump right into this question. Can you lose weight drinking smoothies? Well, sure you can. You can lose weight drinking smoothies but you can also gain weight.

A smoothie should be seen as a tool in your quest to getting a bikini body.

If you don’t change your diet at all, then you’re not going to lose weight and you might even gain weight.

Remember, adding as little as 100 calories a day will add up over time and you’ll put on a lot of weight at the end of the year.

So, the way to lose weight and get a bikini body using a smoothie is to use it as a meal replacement or use it as a partial meal replacement.

What does that mean? Well it means that you should substitute some of the calorie heavy food that you would normally be eating.

For instance, instead of having a bagel and cream cheese for breakfast, you can swap in a smoothie.

The calories would be much lower in a smoothie, plus you’re getting fiber from the fruits or vegetables that will keep you full much longer than a bagel would (these are just carbs and refined breads).

Before you jump headfirst into making smoothies, it’s important to know why a smoothie will help you lose weight.

The reason that smoothies help you lose weight is that you are reducing your caloric load.

However, it’s not just less calories that you will want to have, you will want to maintain a high protein macro ratio in your diet.

If you just cut calories, you will lose weight and become skinny fat.

The way to avoid that is to up your protein content.

And making sure you hit your protein goals is easy when you’re using a smoothie.

There are two simple ways to make sure you are having a protein rich smoothie.

The first one is to make a bikini body smoothie recipe using yogurt.

I like to use Greek yogurt (make sure it’s not flavored and doesn’t have added sugars). The great thing about Greek yogurt when you are making a smoothie is that they make the smoothie really rich and creamy.

A perfect bikini body smoothie recipe would be this one:

1 cup mixed berries (organic and frozen)

1 cup Greek yogurt

½ cup Ice water

Then blend all of that up in your blender and you’re going to be left with a super creamy and protein rich smoothie. That smoothie in fact has more protein than a chicken or burger and it’s way less calories.

By adding frozen berries, you can skip the ice cubes. If you don’t have frozen berries and are using fresh berries then I would suggest that you use ice cubes.

I am a big fan of frozen fruit smoothies, though. I think they are super smootha and silky and you get more flavor than if you were using ice.

Another great bikini body smoothie recipe would be this one:

 

1 Cup missed berries/ sub fresh pineapple

1 scoop whey or vegan protein power

1 cup ice water

 

This is going to give you around 25-30 grams of protein and less than 200 calories. You can’t beat that.

I suggest making sure you use a full cup of water because you are adding protein powder (I like organic whey or organic pea protein powder).

If you’re using a vanilla or chocolate flavored protein powder, then make sure you like the fruits that you pair them with.

 

Are Green Smoothies Good for Weight Loss?

Yes, green smoothies are perfect for weight loss. I’ve covered them before; you can read more about them here.  I also covered a bunch of compact blenders for green smoothies if you want to save money and space in your kitchen.

The reason that green smoothies are so perfect for weight loss is that greens as a rule are low in calories.

Not only that, but there’s some good science behind greens being beneficial to people who are looking to keep muscle while losing fat.

And that’s important for all the ladies that want a bikini body with a nice booty. You don’t want to lose muscle while you are dieting. You want to lose weight which is mostly fat.

A diet that is high in green vegetables and protein is the key to keeping that bikini body booty all summer.

Listen, follow any Instagram influencer and you’ll see that they do a few things:

Hit the gym and do glute workouts (squats, kickbacks, lunges).

Cut out sodas, sugars, and processed foods

Take extra protein, often in the form of a protein smoothie.

It’s that combination of things: resistance training, diet, extra protein that gives influencers and fitness models bikini worthy bodies.

 

Can a Green Smoothie Replace a Meal?

Yes. The most important thing to remember when choosing a meal replacement is that you want something that has micronutrients and vitamins.

A protein bar doesn’t have the nutritional value that a smoothie has. And that’s why you see so many influencers say that a protein bar is a snack, not a meal replacement. They are good if you’re trying to maintain muscle on a diet and lose fat.

A green smoothie, though, can certainly be a meal replacement and also can save you a ton of calories.

As anyone who has dieted long enough knows, you can’t outrun a bad diet. No matter how long you spend on the treadmill, you’re not going to burn off calories that you over eat.

Just to give you some idea, one can of soda would take you around 2 miles to burn off. Now, if you realistically want to burn off several hundred calories a day, you’re going to be running 6 miles.

And that’s not going to leave you much energy for weight training (squats, lunches, and crunches) that will help you get that bikini body you want.

So, the best way to go about the process is to simply cut calories from your diet using a smoothie.

 

10 Day Green Smoothie Challenge Explained

The ten day green smoothie challenge is basically a sort of fast that has green smoothies as your sole source of nutrients.

In this way, it’s better for a person than a regular fast where you are dieting and losing both muscle and fat by simply not eating anything.

However, I’d advise against a regular 10 day smoothie challenge as they are popularly discussed online simply because you’re not going to get nearly enough protein if you want a bikini body.

So, you could do something like a modified 10 day smoothie challenge.

Instead of making a regular smoothie where the only ingredients were fruits or green veggies, what I would advise you do is use a good protein powder — my particular favoriate when making green smoothies is this organic unflavored protein—and that way you won’t end up skinny fat but rather keep a tone bikni body.

You can certainly drop the calories during your fast and 10 day smoothie challenge, but by adding in extra protein what you’re doing is preventing muscle loss.

Of course, you’re going to want to add in resistance training along with your protein intake to make sure that you’re building muscle and preventing muscle loss during a calorie cut.
