Make Your Green Smoothie Taste Better

Everyone can agree that there are few things healthier than a green smoothie. They are a fast way to get a ton of healthy greens into your body. So if you’re the type that doesn’t have the time or the energy to eat a big kale salad, then you can just blend up a delicious green smoothie. What you will have to figure out is how to make it taste better. Kale, or parsley or spinach, are not the most tasty ingredients. But they are super healthy. There is nothing wrong with a super delicious blueberry smoothie, and you should definitely add some type of berry smoothie into your routine, but it’s not the end all. There are particular nutrients in greens that you don’t find in berries, which is why you shouldn’t skip out on making a green drink. The main ones are the super antioxidants lutein and zeaxanthin.

What Not To Add

The first thing many people think of adding to their green smoothie’s is something sweet like maple syrup. The problem with that is that the flavors don’t mix well. You shouldn’t look to make a green smoothie too sweet. It’s not a good mix. You could add some yogurt, but if you want to make healthy green smoothies you should steer clear of fruit heavy smoothies that are loaded with high fructose corn syrup, or even tons of cane sugar.

What You Should Add Instead, you should look to add something such as pineapple (a green smoothie favorite) or something like cranberries or lemons (if you like a nice sour flavor that’s also good at preventing kidney stones).

If you get a pineapple, you should peel it. Some die hard blender nuts will say you can blend up the skin, but you should really peel it. For one thing, unless you are getting organic, the skin is not too clean. Secondly, the skin is not the part that has the most nutrients. Also, unlike lemons, there is not powerful oil. So take the time to peel the pineapple. But what you can do is blend up the core. However, only try this is you have a super heavy duty juicer such as a vitamix. The pineapple core is rich in bromelain, but if you are running a smaller blender, just skip the core and focus on the flesh of the pineapple.

When it comes time to blend up a lemon, do use the whole thing. That’s why I suggest blending only organic lemons. The skin of the lemon has all of the flavor. Lemon oil is not only super strong in flavor, it’s also rich in powerful antioxidants and has tons of health benefits.
