Are All Blenders Loud?

If you’re looking to buy a blender, then it is a good idea to learn about how loud they are. Some people are concerned about having a really loud blender in their kitchen. So, the obvious question is if all blenders are loud.

Before we get into a more nuanced discussions, let me first say that yes all blenders are loud. They are not designed to be quiet. It’s not like cold press juicers which are much quieter than popular juicers.

Blenders use blades to blend up food and liquids and ice. Those blades, along with the blenders motor, makes noise.

Does this mean that your blender will have to be loud? No. There are blenders that have special sound dampening designs, and there are also tricks that you can use that can help make your blender less loud.

Let’s take a look at some special topics related to how loud a blender is.

Are Blenders Supposed to be Loud?

It’s not a question of whether or not blenders are supposed to be loud. They are not designed to be loud. They are designed to blend. The sound is a byproduct of the blending process.

When you compare a blender to a food processor, which is somewhat of a similar design, you will see that they are also loud.

Juicers, which people sometimes think of when they talk about blenders, are also loud unless you buy a slow press juicer. Those machines have motors which are powerful and slow.

Unfortunately, blenders are not designed to be slow press. So, there is no way to avoid the sound from the blender motor.

So, you can see that it’s not that blenders are designed to be loud but rather that they are loud as a byproduct of the blenders working as designed.

How do you make a blender not loud?

If you already own a blender, and you find that it’s too loud, then you have limited options. Some people will suggest that you can dampen the sound of the blender using various tricks and hacks.

I’m not going to suggest you do that. The blender is designed to operate a certain way, and there’s often little you can do at home rigging up your own soundproofing hacks that will work.

In fact, there are some things that might actually hinder the performance of the blender. For instance, any suggestion to use dampening towels or other sound proofing hacks that you create at home might end up hurting the blender because you would be dampening the exhaust fan and air intakes.

 Which Blender is the Quietest?

All blenders will make noise. Even if you’re not blending ice or frozen fruit in them, the motors will make noise.

However, smaller blenders do make less noise than larger ones.

So, if you are both concerned with saving space and also want a blender that is quieter than the large Ninja models or big blenders you see in smoothie shops, then what I’d suggest is that you get a bullet blender.

If space isn’t an issue, and you prefer to have a full sized blender, then what I always would suggest to people is to choose a blender that has been designed to be quit.

These blenders are designed with soundproofing materials that have been integrated into the initial design of the blender.

This is an important thing to consider. The design of the blender in quiet blenders incorporates a sound barrier design. This is much different than if you at home were to try and design a quieting device yourself.

The design of the blender when you buy quiet blenders come equipped with soundproofing materials that you would not be able to design or install yourself on regular blenders.

Here’s a few good quiet blenders to look at.

I’ve also written up a whole article on quiet blenders if you are looking for more in depth information on them.

Are Vitamix Blenders Loud?

Vitamix Blenders are going to be somewhat noisy, unless you buy a specially designed Vitamix that comes with sound dampening technology.

As someone who has been using blenders for years, it’s not a huge issue for me. Most of the people I know who use blenders have gotten used to the brief sound that is created with the blender.

However, some people do have an issue with a blender that makes a sound. For those people, my suggestion would be to get a blender that has a sound dampening design.

They can cost more, but if you’re someone who either really hates the sound of a loud blender, or if you need to have a quiet blender to not disturb your roommates or family members or neighbors, then that’s what I would suggest.

Do Ninja Blenders Have Sound Enclosures?

No. Ninja Blenders are really good blenders, but they don’t design models that are supposed to be quiet.

I own a Ninja blender and I think it’s a great blender for everyone. However, if you are looking for a blender that is quiet, then it’s not the choice for you.

Ninja blenders are perfect for people who are on a budget and want a powerful blender. But if you do want a quit blender that isn’t loud, then I would advise you look at other models.

There are blenders from brands such as Black and Decker, as well as well known blender brands like Vitamix.

But if you are looking for a quit Ninja blender, you’re not going to find one specifically designed with a sound proofing case.

Do You Need a Quiet Blender?

Before you go out and buy a quiet blender, think about whether or not you even need one. It’s not necessarily a requirement that you have a blender that doesn’t make any sound, or is super quiet.

If you are making a smoothie, for instance, it only takes a short time. Less than a minute of blending time to make that smoothie.

That loud sound isn’t really a problem if you are only making a smoothie every day.

Now, if you’re someone who is going to make several smoothie a day, or if you are making them early in the morning and you live with roommates or family, then I understand the issue.
