Are Ninja Blenders Quiet

Blenders make noise. It’s a fact of life, like the fact that the sun will rise in the morning or the ocean is made of water. Blenders are going to make noise.

But not all blenders are super loud. You do not have to get a blender that will wake up the entire apartment.

There are small blenders that have smaller motors, there are also blenders that have been designed with stronger cases with better sound proofing. And lastly, there are some interesting blender alternatives that you can look into getting.

This article is designed to answer a few different questions that I’ve been asked over the years. This blender, for instance, uses the innovative noise shield design. This type of design is the only real way to create a quieter blender.

First, are Ninja blenders quiet? That’s the most common question that I get with regard to Ninja blenders. Even more common than if they can handle frozen fruit or leafy greens.

Second, we’re going to look at blenders in general. Are there blenders that are able to be used that don’t create as much noise as others.

Finally, we’re going to take a look at different types of blenders that are available that are not your “normal blender”. Some of these blenders are:

Are Ninja Blenders Quiet?

A lot of people wonder about Ninja blenders because Ninja is one of the most common blenders on the market.

The average person, when searching for a good blender is likely to run into reviews of Ninja blenders and most likely buy one. They are pretty decent blenders for all intents and purposes.

But, are Ninja blenders quiet? Good question.

Yes and no. It depends on which Ninja blender you end up buying. Because there are some Ninja blenders that are not quiet. And there are some that are more quiet than others.

That sounds a bit convoluted, but we will go over it in more detail. Because not only are not all Ninja blenders alike, not all blenders are either loud or quiet. Much depends upon which type of blender brand and blender design you choose.

What Makes A Quiet Blender?

There are a few different things that determine if the blender you buy is going to be quiet or loud. Let’s take a look at each in detail:

  • The Blender Casing Design

The first item on the list is going to be the most important: Blender Casing Design. It sort of ties into the last one as well.

If the blender has been designed with quality materials, then it is going to produce less sound than a cheaply made blender with flimsy plastic. That is because the first level of sound protection comes from thicker plastic or metal used surrounding the motor.

However, even the most sturdy and thickest plastic will deaden the sound significantly. That’s where soundproofing comes in. More on this later.

  • The Quality of the Motor

Some motors make more noise than others. It’s not just a question of sheer power, it’s a question of quality. A well built motor will have proper seals, gaskets, and other standard pieces that help it sound less harsh. The cheaply made off brand motors will sound loud even if they are weak.

However, a blender is not necessarily a quiet blender just because it’s expensive. The two do not always correlate. So, you can’t just buy a very expensive blender and assume it will be quieter than a cheaper blender(though in many cases that is the case)

  • The Power of the Blender

The next issues to look into is the power of the blender. As a rule, the more horsepower or watts a blender has, the louder it will be. It’s sort of comparable to cars. A v8 or a v12 engine will make more noise than a small 4 cylynder car.

So, if you’re buying a powerful blender that’s good for blending greens, nut butter, and making green smoothies, then you’re going to have to understand that the blender will make noise. Super quiet blenders are not that strong, unless they happen to have been soundproofed.

  • Extra Sound Proofing

This is where you will really be able to make a substantial difference with blender sound. Basically, if you’re really concerned about the sound of your blender, then you are going to have to get a blender that is designed with proper soundproofing materials.

The soundproofing materials that are in use with blenders basically are all similar. It’s a container made of strong plastic that encloses the entire blender and motor.

The principal behind all of these soundproofing strategies used with blenders is based on acoustic principals of how sound travels. You basically create a pocket of air and then another barrier (plastic case) that hinders sound movement. The same principals are shown in articles that cover basic soundproofing information.

With blenders, basically you are going to end up with a “shield” design. And most of the big brands have these as part of their line up.

The way the shield design works with a blender is that it prevents sound from escaping at the same decibel level. You’re basically getting the blender to work inside of a sound bubble.

Are There Any Quiet Blenders?

Sure, as we’ve mentioned there are quiet blenders. Some small bullet style blenders are quieter than your average Ninja or Vitamix blender.

But if you really are looking to get a quiet blender, then you are going to have to go with a blender that’s been designed with soundproofing in the form of a shield.

These should shields are really the only thing that can make your blender quiet and dampen the sound from the motor or the ice.

Most major brands have them and, to some degree, they are all successful. Here’s a few that are well reviewed  by customers.

As you’ll notice, there is a big price range to consider. At the one end, you have the Hamilon Beach. It’s a decent blender but it’s not in the same league as something like a Vitamix or Blendtec.  A Hamilton Beach would be fine if you were looking to do fruit smoothies. But anything more serious and I would recommend that you opt for the BlendTech.

Which Ninja Blenders Are Quiet?

Honestly, even though I like Ninja Blender…they are not the most quiet. I happen to own a Ninja Blender (the Ninja Professional Model). But I deal with noise. To me, a blender does not need to be quiet. That’s not something that is of the utmost importance.

However, for other people there is the need for a quiet blender: roommates, early risers, late night smoothies. There are legitimate reasons, I admit.

Of all of the Ninja blenders, I can’t really recommend any of them for people who want a quiet blender.

That doesn’t mean that ninja blenders are not good machines, it simply means that they are not well designed for quiet blending.

There are workarounds you can try including muffling with towels and other sound dampening materials, but it will all be jury rigged.

Alternatives To Loud Blenders: 3 Quiet Blenders

I’ve included below a few different blenders below that are quiet. Some of them are quiet due to smaller in design, while others are quiet because they have the sound proof shield.

The blenders that are made with the sound proof shield are going to be quieter. However, the larger blenders with the sound dampening shields are not small. So, if you’re looking for a small space saving blender, you might best best suited to a personal blender that is of the bullet design.

A Quiet Blender for College

Magic Bullet- Small and Perfect for Dorm Life

For teens heading off to college, the decision about buying a blender is a minor one…but also an important one. If you’re going to be living in the dorms and you are into making smoothies, then you want to get something that is both small as well as quiet.

So,my recommendation for college dorms would be a bullet style blender.

The reason that I recommend a bullet style blender for college students is that they are cheaper than the full shield design. Also, they are smaller. And that’s a big plus for anyone.

The basic reason I suggest bullet style blenders is that they are affordable and also small. The small factor is important because it will allow you to keep it in your dorm room.

A Stick Blender: Quiet and Versatile

Muller-A Powerful Stick Blender

Stick blenders aka immersion blenders are another good option for people looking for a quiet blender. These designs tend to be smaller in build–and therefore produce less noise.

I actually like Immersion blenders for a few reasons and I suggest that you own an immersion blender just because it allows you to:

  • Blend Soups
  • Make Soap
  • Make Smoothies In A Jar
  • Much More…

This blender gets excellent reviews.
